Why Hydro?
While solar and wind generation are environmentally superior solutions to fossil fuel generation, hydropower has the added advantages of offering continuous generation 24/7/365, negating the need for costly battery storage systems which themselves have environmental implications.
The use of sustainable renewable energy from natural water resources is the perfect solution. Hydropower systems can deliver constantly available power, without the need for the environmentally harmful batteries which usually accompany solar and wind storage systems.
For sites with existing solar power, but needing greater overnight and peak load power availability, pumped storage hydro schemes provide a renewable solution (compared to electrical batteries). Surplus electricity is used to drive a pump which pumps water up a hill from the sea (or a river or artificial pond) to an upper storage pond. The water in the elevated storage pond has stored or potential energy by
virtue of its height. When needed, the stored energy can be used to drive a turbine to produce electricity. In effect you have a long lasting hydro storage battery which has been charged by utilising energy from the sun.
New Zealand is a nation built on hydropower, with over 50% of generation from river water.
New Zealand hydropower experts are available to Asia/Pacific nations, to assist with local projects, big and small. Their skills and experience can make your project a success.
The New Zealand Hydropower Coalition was formed in 2018 to bring all those skills into one coordinated agency. These highly experienced companies have worked together on multiple projects over the years. Together they have delivered:
• Accurate system design
• Cost effective projects
• Realistic budget and timeframes
• Quality and complete designs
• Quality and reliable equipment selection, acquisition, and installation
Contact the New Zealand Hydropower Coalition for:
• Hydropower project scoping, and feasibility
• Civil design, and construction
• Pipeline design, and construction
• Hydro turbine design, construction, and commissioning
• Electrical design, construction, training and commissioning
