Maskell supply and manufacture fibreglass (FRP/GRP) hydropower penstock pipe systems and have 15 years of experience in this field, supported by over 40 years of proven global use of FRP pipe in hydropower penstock systems which originated in Norway in the 1970’s.

Maskell’s power generation experience spans the entire Australasia region, including proven expertise in many southeast Asian countries, and with piping systems up to DN2800 / 2.8m diameter, and in pressure service for hydropower in excess of 30 bar.

In the past decade, fibreglass has clearly demonstrated pressure performance, seismic resilience, corrosion resistance and longevity against traditional steel pipe options and has become the product of choice for small and medium hydropower applications.

Fibreglass penstocks are lightweight and easy to install. No corrosion protection or site welding is required. Direct burial of the pipe, installation in tunnels, above-ground service options on supports, or a combination of these are used.
